Roger McDowell Reveals Homophobia Still Alive and Well
The Atlanta Braves and Major League Baseball are investigating claims that the Braves’ pitching coach, Roger McDowell was involved in an altercation in San Francisco last weekend and made derogatory remarks to a fan and his family. The details are still being investigated, but the accusations are surprising. When things like this come to light, it is shocking, disheartening and disgusting. What it reveals is that homophobia is alive and well in baseball (and basketball on the heels of Kobe Bryant’s recent remarks). I am sure that the NFL and almost every other major professional sport has the same problem, though it has not come to light. (more…)
Braves Head Home on a High Note
The Atlanta Braves west coast swing started off rough as they lost three of four to the Los Angeles Dodgers. However, they won five of their last six games to head back to Atlanta on a high note, with momentum and a .500 record. Jair Jurrjens and Tommy Hanson combined to pitch 16 innings to take 8-2 and 7-0 wins from the San Diego Padres. (more…)
Braves Need Help in Bullpen
If there is one thing that has become evident over the past 11 days is the importance of Peter Moylan to the Atlanta Braves’ bullpen. Since he went on the DL with back spasms, the Braves have lost blown leads late in three games and gave up go ahead runs in another game. In the 15 games he has missed, the Braves have given up 9 runs in the 7th inning. Why is that important? 5 words: Jonny Venters and Craig Kimbrel. (more…)
Braves Suffer Second Excruciating Defeat in Last 5 Games
This was not the way the Atlanta Braves hoped to start their series with the San Diego Padres. One has to wonder how much adversity this team can go through in a short time. They have lost two games in the past five days in 12 and 13 innings by a 5-3 margin each time. They blew leads in each game and the bullpen faltered late in each. One thing that has plagued them in these defeats was the lack of timely hits. (more…)
